From the CEA/AFT petition, "Plan to Protect Our Schools: Safe and Successful Schools Now"
"With the surging COVID-19 infection rate in Connecticut—the highest since May—Connecticut must:
- Establish and strictly enforce consistent statewide safety protocols for schools contained in the Safe & Successful Schools Now Report;
- Require uniform transparency in reporting and responding to COVID-19 cases;
If these safety measures are not possible, Connecticut must shift to full-time remote learning.
Despite the unprecedented challenges of this pandemic, educators and school staff are working hard to ensure that students are engaged, learning--and most importantly that they are safe. We must be allowed to participate in the decisions that protect safety for students, staff, and their families. The state must also continue full payment and prohibit layoffs through the end of the current school year for all public school staff who are directly employed by the local or regional board of educations."
